Hydrogeologists are involved in the field surveys, drilling supervision, borehole logging, designing and installation of water wells, aquifer testing and interpretation of all kinds of data related to groundwater occurrence and movement. Hydrogeologists are also involved in assessing water quality and water level data of a hydrogeological basin and assess the risks to environment and assist in proper environment management of the basin. Hydrogeologists supervise field drilling and all other associated activities.
Hydrogeologists play a key role in the sound and environmentally sustainable use of groundwater resources. They are key player in the monitoring of groundwater quality and levels and improve the management of this precious resource. Hydrogeologists now use very specific computer software for the assessment and monitoring of groundwater resources.
Typical work activities required for Ashghal are outlined below but those may vary according to the role assigned:-
•Supervise field activities regarding the shallow groundwater monitoring project.
•Supervise installation of automatic data loggers and ensure proper functioning and future data acquisition from loggers.
•Devise and implement in the field a monitoring programme of obtaining water levels and field quality parameters using existing about 1000 monitoring wells.
•Liaise with all the relevant departments concerning to groundwater issues.
•Liaise with all dewatering operations carried out in the state of Qatar, specifically related to large scale construction projects.
•Monitor and assess the impacts of dewatering operations on the surrounding infrastructure and warn in time of any kind of risks associated with dewatering and propose mitigating measures.
